VANDERBILT DROPS ROAD CONTEST AT NO. 2 UT, 73-53
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Candace Parker had 21 points and 14 rebounds and second-ranked Tennessee closed the regular season with a 73-53 win over No. 12 Vanderbilt on Sunday. The Lady Vols (27-2, 14-0 Southeastern Conference) were trying to make a case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament after wrapping up the league title earlier. They finished undefeated in the SEC for the eighth time. Shannon Bobbitt added 14 points, and Sidney Spencer had 10 for the Lady Vols after being honored at Senior Day. Carla Thomas led the Commodores (24-5, 10-4) with 23 points.

BOULDER, Colo. -- The No. 15/16 Vanderbilt women's basketball team survived a tough road contest against a major-conference opponent, overcoming Colorado, 81-76, Sunday at the Coors Events Conference Center. Senior forward Carla Thomas posted a team-high 26 points, including 17 in the second half, to lift the Commodores. Senior Caroline Williams added 21 points, while sophomore Christina Wirth had 14. The Commodores led by as many as 17 points in the second half, but Colorado clawed back behind a 27-point, 12-rebound performance by Jackie McFarland.

Senior Caroline Williams scored 19 points, including 14 in the second half, to lead the Commodores. Vanderbilt played four freshmen during the night ... the newcomers combined to play 57 minutes, scoring 27 points. The Lady Toppers were led by 22 points from Dominique Duck.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 15th-ranked Vanderbilt women's basketball team won its home opener Saturday against Dartmouth, 79-49, in Memorial Gymnasium. Senior Carla Thomas led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. All 12 of Vanderbilt players saw action during the game, with everyone scoring except for senior guard Caroline Williams. Dartmouth was led by 11 points each from Koren Schram and Cookeville, Tenn., native Ashley Taylor.

#12 VU DEFEATS UAB BEHIND THOMAS' 32
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior forward Carla Thomas helped the 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women's basketball team turn a close game at UAB into an 85-63 victory Thursday night at Bartow Arena. In the process, Head Coach Melanie Balcomb earned her 100th career victory at Vanderbilt. Balcomb has won 73% of her 137 games since moving to Nashville prior to the 2002-03 season. Thomas scored 32 points -- one shy of her career high -- and added 11 rebounds, posting her first double-double of the season and the 10th of her career. Britney Jones led the Blazers with 19 points, while Diamond Rogers had 16 and Carmen Guzman added 15.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A pair of double-doubles from senior Caroline Williams and junior Liz Sherwood led the 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women's basketball team to a convincing 82-63 win over Clemson Sunday at Memorial Gymnasium. On her 22nd birthday, Sherwood led all scorers with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Williams posted 12 points and 11 boards. D'Lesha Lloyd led four Clemson players in double-figures with 16 points. Lele Hardy posted a double-double for the Lady Tigers with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

FIRST LOSS OF SEASON FOR #11 VANDERBILT COMES AT #4 DUKE
DURHAM, N.C. -- The 11th-ranked Commodore women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils, 69-48, Thursday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Senior Carla Thomas led the Commodores with 14 points, while senior Dee Davis had a season-high 12. Alison Bales, Duke's 6-7 senior center, led four Blue Devils' in double-figures with 16 points. The Commodore defense forced Duke into a season-high 23 turnovers, holding the Blue Devils under 70 points for the first time this year.

No. 12 COMMODORES DEFEAT SOUTH FLORIDA, 76-68
The 12th-ranked Commodore women's basketball team defeated South Florida, 76-68, at the St. Pete Times Forum Sunday. Junior Liz Sherwood and sophomore Christina Wirth each posted double-double performances for Vanderbilt (9-1) -- the second time this season that a pair of Commodores have achieved the feat in the same contest. Sherwood led all Commodores with 19 points and pulled down a career-high-tying 13 boards. Wirth scored 12 and had a personal-best 11 rebounds. Jessica Dickson led all scorers with 23 points, and pulled 11 rebounds for the Bulls (8-2).

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women's basketball team had little trouble advancing to the championship of its Holiday Classic, defeating neighboring Lipscomb, 109-40, Wednesday at Memorial Gymnasium. The Commodore win was the third-largest margin of victory in Vanderbilt history and the most points scored by the Commodores (10-1) since they put up 116 against Hampton in 1998. All 12 players on Vanderbilt's roster scored at least five points in the game, with only four players reaching double-figures -- led by freshman Amber Norton's game-high 14 points. Lipscomb (3-10) was led by nine points from Catie Woods.

The Commodores (11-1) pulled away in the second half with a 19-8 run, stretching a 58-53 lead to 77-61 with 5:27 remaining. Thomas was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Christina Wirth added a career-high 18 points for Vanderbilt. Rachel Maenpaa led Indiana State with 23 points and six rebounds.

Wirth led five Commodores in double-figures. Senior Caroline Williams scored 15 points on 3-of-3 shooting from behind-the-arc. Senior Dee Davis added 13 points and seven assists, while Thomas posted 12 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Jennifer Risper scored 10 points. Vanderbilt's defense held Arkansas to a season-low 30% from the field. The Dores made 62% of their field goals and 69% of their three-point attempts. Donica Cosby scored a team-high 15 points for the Lady Razorbacks.

OXFORD, Miss. -- The No. 11/10 Vanderbilt women's basketball team were upset Sunday, 76-66, by the Rebels on the road at Ole Miss' Tad Smith Coliseum. The Commodores (14-2, 1-1 SEC), who had tied their second best start in school history at 14-1, were outrebounded, 47-27, by the Rebels and dropped their Southeastern Conference road opener for the second straight season. Senior Caroline Williams led the Commodores with 19 points. Senior Carla Thomas scored 18 points. Sophomore Christina Wirth contributed 12 points, while senior Dee Davis dished out nine assists. Ole Miss' Armintie Price led all scorers with 21 points. All five Ole Miss starters scored in double-figures, including 14 points from Alliesha Easley on 7-of-11 shooting.

VANDERBILT COMEBACK SINKS GAMECOCKS, 67-66
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Dee Davis hit two free throws with 22.6 seconds to go as No. 14 Vanderbilt made a late charge to beat South Carolina 67-66 on Thursday night. The final points of the game gave the No. 14 Commodores (15-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) their only lead of the night. The Gamecocks (10-7, 1-2) led 64-55 with 4 minutes to go, but turned the ball over six times and made just 2-of-6 free throws in their final 11 possessions. The only shot from the field during that stretch was Lakesa Tolliver's miss with 2 seconds to go. The Commodores scored on five of their final seven possessions, making four of six free throws in the final 40 seconds. Carla Thomas led Vanderbilt with 26 points and seven rebounds, while Christina Wirth and Caroline Williams each added 13 points. Stacy Booker scored 14 points and Tolliver had nine points and nine rebounds for South Carolina.

The Commodores (16-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) made only six of their first 25 shots and shot 36.7 percent from the field in the first half, helping the Gators to a 33-28 halftime advantage. Wirth scored 12 points in the second half and sparked an 11-0 Vanderbilt run that led to a 44-40 lead. It was the Commodores' first lead since holding a 3-2 advantage. Depree Bowden led Florida (6-12, 0-3) with 26 points.

VANDERBILT FALLS TO NO. 4 LADY VOLS, 67-57
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Sidney Spencer scored a career-high 26 points, and No. 4 Tennessee pulled out a 67-57 victory Thursday night against Vanderbilt (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 15 AP). Tennessee (18-2, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) handed the Commodores (17-3, 4-1) their first loss at home this season. The Lady Vols relied on their defense, forcing Vandy into a season-high 27 turnovers that Tennessee turned into 29 points. Senior forward Carla Thomas scored 10 of her 16 points in less than 4 minutes to rally Vandy, and she hit two free throws to give the Commodores their last lead at 48-47 with 3:41 left. Candace Parker finished with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and Alexis Hornbuckle had 11 for Tennessee.

DAVIS HITS LAST-SECOND SHOT TO LIFT COMMODORES, 63-62
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Dee Davis made a game-winning layup with less than 2 seconds left, lifting No. 15 Vanderbilt to a thrilling 63-62 victory over Kentucky on Thursday night in Lexington. Christina Wirth scored 14 points and Carla Thomas added 11 to help the Commodores (19-4, 5-3) win their 11th straight against Kentucky. Kentucky took a 62-61 lead when Amani Franklin scored inside with 11 seconds left. Vanderbilt called timeout with less than 7 seconds to go. Following the timeout, Davis proceeded to score on a driving lay-up with less than two ticks on the clock. After Davis scored, the Commodres picked off Jennifer Humphrey's inbounds pass to preserve the win. Humphrey led the Wildcats with 16 points, and Nastassia Alcius matched a season high with 14.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Caroline Williams scored 17 points to lead No. 15 Vanderbilt to a 91-51 victory over Alabama on Sunday. Williams made three 3-pointers in the first half as the Commodores raced to a 15-0 lead. Eleven players broke into the scoring column for Vanderbilt (20-4, 6-3 Southeastern Conference), which posted its eighth consecutive season with at least 20 victories. The Commodores shot 84.0 percent in the second half and 64.7 overall. Kate Mastin led Alabama (10-14, 0-9) with 21 points.

Christina Wirth, Caroline Williams and Dee Davis each sank a 3-pointer early as Vanderbilt (21-4, 7-3 SEC) raced to a 16-0 lead. DeWanna Bonner led the Tigers with 12 points.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Caroline Williams scored a career-high 24 points and No. 12 Vanderbilt dominated the first half to take an 84-64 victory over Mississippi State on Thursday night. Carla Thomas added 12 points and Jennifer Risper 10 for the Commodores (22-4, 8-3 Southeastern Conference), who scored 20 points off Mississippi State's 15 first-half turnovers. Marneshia Richard had 15 points for Mississippi State (16-10, 6-5). Alexis Rack added 14 and Tysheka Grimes 11.

NASHVILLE, Tenn (AP) -- Playing in their final home game, seniors Dee Davis, Carla Thomas and Caroline Williams sparked No. 12 Vanderbilt to its seventh win in a row, this time over No. 7 LSU 68-58 Thursday night in Memorial Gym. Thomas led the 'Dores with 23 points, while Davis and Williams added 17 and 12 respectively. Vanderbilt shot 54.2 percent against the nation's stingiest scoring defense, which had held opponents to 49.1 points per game. LSU's Erica White tied a career high with 22 points. Sylvia Fowles had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

VANDERBILT DROPS ROAD CONTEST AT NO. 2 UT, 73-53
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Candace Parker had 21 points and 14 rebounds and second-ranked Tennessee closed the regular season with a 73-53 win over No. 12 Vanderbilt on Sunday. The Lady Vols (27-2, 14-0 Southeastern Conference) were trying to make a case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament after wrapping up the league title earlier. They finished undefeated in the SEC for the eighth time. Shannon Bobbitt added 14 points, and Sidney Spencer had 10 for the Lady Vols after being honored at Senior Day. Carla Thomas led the Commodores (24-5, 10-4) with 23 points.
