WBB Hosts Clemson, "Pink Out" Sunday
Dec. 2, 2006
Half of all ticket proceeds to the "Pink Out" game will be donated to help fund research initiatives at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink and 1,200 pink rally towels will be handed out as the Commodores attempt to blanket Memorial Gymnasium with pink for ESPN2's national telecast.
Vanderbilt is 7-0 for the third time in four years. The Commodores' best start under Head Coach Melanie Balcomb, now in her fifth season, was a 10-0 beginning to the 2003-04 season. That year, Vanderbilt won the Southeastern Conference Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
Senior forward Carla Thomas ranks second in the SEC, averaging 19.3 points per game. She posted her 10th-career double-double on Thursday at UAB, scoring 32 points -- one off her career-high -- and 12 rebounds to lead the Commodores to a 22-point victory.
Guards Dee Davis and Caroline Williams are also having outstanding senior campaigns. Davis leads the SEC in assists, and posted a career-high 12 helpers at UAB, while Williams is again one of the league's most-feared long-range threats.
Tickets for Sunday's game are $5, and can be purchased via phone (615-322-GOLD), on the Internet (http://vucommodores.com) or at the McGugin Center Box Office (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.).
