NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vanderbilt men's tennis senior Charlie Jones has been named to the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Tournament. Jones is one of 64 singles players who will compete in the tournament May 23-28 at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee selects the 64 players based heavily on the latest edition of ITA singles rankings, in which Jones is ranked No. 42. Automatic bids were given to 14 conferences, including the SEC, for having a player ranked in the ITA Top 125. Kentucky's Eric Quigley received the SEC's automatic bid.

The tournament is a 64-person bracket with each match best-of-three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used. Only the top-16 seeds have been announced, with the full field to be released closer to the event.

The last Vanderbilt player to participate in the singles tournament was Ryan Lipman in 2010. The Nashville native defeated VCU's 25th-ranked Thibaut Charron in the first round before falling Ohio State's Chase Buchanan in round two.

Jones and the No. 40 Commodores open NCAA team play on Saturday, May 12, when they take on Notre Dame in the first round. The match is set for 9:00 a.m. CT at Ohio State's Varsity Tennis Courts in Columbus, Ohio.
